When are submissions open?
Submissions are now open! General submissions close on February 26th, 2023. Black Love-themed submissions are now closed.

What can you submit?
We accept submissions of poetry, fiction, flash fiction, personal essays, essays on art, music, literature, and visual art including photography.

Who can submit?
Submissions are open to anyone, with a focus on the work of Howard University community members. Submitters do not have to be students.

Where can you submit?
To submit your work, you can send your work to submissions.sterlingnotes@gmail.com. Attach your work as a word document or as a JPEG (if applicable). Include a short (2-3 sentences) third person bio including your pronouns if you are comfortable doing so.

Are you open to simultaneous submissions?
Yes, simultaneous submissions are allowed. If your work is accepted elsewhere, please let us know as soon as you can.

Can you submit multiple pieces?
Yes you can, please make sure to send them all in one email, but in separate documents. It is possible that not all pieces submitted will be accepted.
All articles published in Sterling Notes are licensed with an Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license unless otherwise specified.
As Sterling Notes is an open-access journal, authors must be willing to publish their material with a Creative Commons License.
Authors may contact Sterling Notes if they wish to have a different Creative Commons License applied to their work before publication.
